If your fridge door won’t stay closed, then you might be concerned. Appliance Warehouse Services tells you why it happens and how we can help you to solve it.

Fridges need to have a sealed environment in order for them to keep cool. If they don’t, they can use up more energy trying to keep cold which may cause further problems. An unsealed door can make your fridge work too hard. This might make it noisy and also raise the temperature of the fridge – putting your food at risk.

How can you help to combat this issue?

  1. Ensure that no foods inside are keeping the door from shutting. Large tupperware or bottles can often a culprit, especially when the fridge is at full capacity.

  2. Check if removing heavy items in the fridge can enable the fridge door to shut. If the door now shuts, it might be one of the below problems.

  3. Inspect the rubber seal on the door (gasket). The door seal should be attached and smooth all around the edge of the door and frame. If it appears twisted, or loose then it should be replaced.

  4. If the seal appears to be ok but the door still won’t seal shut or drifts open, then the gasket may be de-magnetised. We can re-magnatise or replace your fridge seal and restore your fridge to full working order.

  5. Check to see if there is something obstructing the hinges. Debris may be blocking it or the plastic spacers may have become worn or deformed.

  6. If the door is not hanging properly, then the hinges may have come out of alignment or have become worn down. Our local engineers can adjust or replace these, so the door sits properly again, solving the issue.
